LUSAKA WATER TO COMMENCE INSTALLATION OF NEW METERS

Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company says it will soon commence the installation of new meters in Lusaka.

This is part of the 2023 to 2027 strategic plan aimed at achieving responsible water usage.

Company Public Relations and Customer Service Manager Ruth Mukuwa says the exercise will begin in March 2025.

Ms Mukuwa explained in an interview with ZANIS that the utility company has secured over 60000 prepaid meters and 4000 postpaid meters that are to be installed.

She further disclosed that the water and sanitation act mandates that all customers connected are to be metered.

Ms Mukuwa said that this is in line with the water and sanitation Act Number 27 of 1997.

“Every customer that is connected to Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation is supposed to be metered,” she said.

Ms Mukuwa further explained that the new water meters will help customers with fair billing and also eliminate estimated billing for accuracy.

She said LWSC aims at enhancing service delivery, fostering trust and promoting water conservation in the country.

Ms Mukuwa has since argued citizens to take reasonable precautions to safeguard the meters from vandalism.
