The disability movement in Central Province has commended the government for introducing features that will help the visually impaired easily identify bank notes.

Central Province Focal Person for the Zambia Agency for People with Disabilities (ZAPD), Clement Chanda, says this is the first time that the government has considered the visually impaired to fully participate in the running of the economy.

Mr Chanda was speaking to ZANIS in an interview in Kabwe today.

“Since time immemorial, the visually impaired were depending on people with a good sight to help identify the notes, it is good that we will be able to do this on our own once the new notes flood the market,” said Mr Chanda.

He observed that the flat features on the currency notes make it difficult for those who are not able to see to differentiate them.

Mr Chanda is of the idea that the government should also introduce features on coins so that the visually impaired are able to differentiate them.

“We appreciate the government just for the idea of adding features that will help the visually impaired identify and differentiate the notes. It is a progressive move,” he said.
