NW SANITATION COMPANY IMPLEMENTS WATER PROJECTS

The North-western Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (NWWSSCL) is implementing water supply projects using the 2023 Constituency Development Funds (CDF) emergency fund allocation in Mwinilunga and Kasempa districts.

In response to a press query on whether the company has benefited from (CDF), (NWWSSCL) Public Relations Officer Gilbert Kaimana has told ZANIS that in Mwinilunga, the water utility company was engaged to expand water network into Kabanda Township using the 2023 CDF at a cost of K1, 161,250.00.

Mr Kaimana said works at the water network are complete and is expected to add 200 customer connections.

He said In Kasempa, the company has been engaged by the local authority to drill and equip two industrial boreholes to improve water supply.

Mr Kaimana added that the project is meant to mitigate the impact of the drying of the Lufupa river water treatment intake as a result of the 2023/2024 drought.

“The river dried up and abstraction had to be done from the Kamusongolo stream. This funding of the project was secured under the Emergency CDF that the Government has provided for Districts impacted by the drought,” he said.

Mr Kaimana said the company is also in the process of constructing a weir at the Solwezi Main Treatment Plant raw water intake using recently released funding by government to improve water abstraction capacity during dry seasons when levels reduce significantly.

“This is at procurement stage, other works being undertaken focus on water supply network repairs and new connections,” he said.
