President Hichilema has graced this year’s Nc’wala traditional ceremony of the Ngoni people at Mutenguleni in Kasengwa district of Eastern Province.
President Hichilema has reiterated his government’s commitment to addressing the economic shocks brought about by the drought to foster resilience among the people.
Mr Hichilema called on traditional leaders to take an active role in supporting government programmes in their various chiefdoms .
ZANIS reports that the Head of State also said the Chipata-Chadiza road named as HH road and the Katete-Chanida road remain top priority for the government.
He thanked the traditional leadership and the church for supporting the government during the trying times of the drought and its associated challenges which he said has now culminated into heavy rains in all parts of the country.
“Last year when I graced the Nc’wala and I talked about the three Cs – that is the chilala , cholera and COVID 19. We have managed to resolve these and will still continue,” he stated.
On Agriculture, Mr Hichilema said his government will continue to implement irrigation agriculture and water harvest to enhance food production in the country.
The Head of State called on Zambians to embrace his government’s free education policy by ensuring that all the children are allowed to attend school .
He said his government has put in place adequate funds to support vulnerable children’s access to education .
And Eswatini’s Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla who represented King Mswati of the Kingdom of Ewastini said Zambia and Eswatini share a lot in common.
Ms Dladla said Zambia and Eswatini share deep historic connections which have contributed to the growth of both countries.
She said both countries share a strong cultural bond which has spanned for many centuries .
Meanwhile, Paramount Chief Mpezeni thanked the government for support towards the expansion of the Nc’wala main arena.
He also emphasised on the need for the country to unite in order to foster national development.
The Paramount Chief said this through Nc’wala Organising Committee Chairperson Dumisani Tembo.
This year’s Nc’wala ceremony began with the crossing of the Zambezi by the Ngoni Paramount Chief.
The event was also preceded by a carnival and procession of the traditional leader from his Ependukeni palace to Laweni.
