ZAMBIA Federation of Disability Organisations (ZAFOD) has called on the Bank of Zambia to add more emphasis on banknote features that are meant to help persons with disabilities.
In a statement issued to ZANIS, (ZAFOD) Federal Director, Justin Bbakali says that the banknote features are not pronounced, which will make it difficult for the visually impaired to recognise the value of the notes.
Mr Bbakali added that the disability features are a great support to persons with visual impairment who mainly use a sense of touch to recognise monetary value of the bank notes.
He further commended the Bank of Zambia on the addition of disability features on the new currency to be released next month.
Mr Bbakali added that this is a demonstration of a moral obligation to ensure all citizens participate in economic and social activities in a dignified and efficient manner.
The Bank of Zambia announced that it will introduce new banknotes on 31st March this year. Which will include the introduction of 500 and 200 Kwacha notes.
