CHISAMBA LIVESTOCK FARMERS URGED TO SAFEGUARD THEIR ANIMALS

Chisamba District Commissioner, Joel Mboyoma, has called on livestock farmers in the area to safeguard their animals as opposed to letting them roam in the community.

This follows concerns raised by residents of Chisamba Constituency’s Mutenga Ward over the rampant human – animal conflict in the area, which has resulted in the cattle causing disturbances at public institutions such as schools.

ZANIS reports that Mr Mboyoma further urged the livestock farmers to follow regulations regarding livestock farming by ensuring they build shelters for them.

“All livestock farmers in Mutenga Ward and the entire district are required to construct kraals for their animals. Cattle which will be found roaming at public institutions and along the roads will be confiscated,” he warned.

The District Commissioner added that letting livestock roam in residential areas and other public facilities can contribute to the spread of diseases from animals to human beings.

Earlier, Festus Mweemba, a small scale farmer in Mwomboshi area complained that cattle are invading his maize field thereby affecting his productivity.

Mr Mweemba called on the government to strengthen regulations on livestock rearing to ensure adherence by farmers.
