Two men are battling for their lives in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) after being shot by suspected robbers yesterday .
Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Rea Hamoonga has condemned the violent aggravated robbery that occurred yesterday, February 25, 2025, at approximately 16:20 hours at Lilayi Turn Off in Chilanga District.
He explained that the incident involved Mr. Biness Mungundu, aged 39, a businessman of Chirundu, who was driving a Toyota Axio registration number AEB 4407, and his passenger, Mr. Aubrey Siazambo, aged 42, of the same address.
Mr. Hamoonga said the victims were traveling from Lusaka towards Kafue when they were ambushed by four unknown criminals who were trailing them in a grey Mark X bearing registration number BBA 7522 which is suspected to be a fake registration.
He said, the assailants opened fire on the victims before robbing them of an undisclosed amount of money and a pistol and then fled the scene using Lilayi Road.
He added that the victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the University Teaching Hospital.
“The Zambia Police Service has since launched a full-scale investigation into this criminal act, and all efforts are being made to bring the culprits to justice”, he said.
“We are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in the apprehension of these criminals to report to the nearest police station immediately” he appealed.
Mr Hamoonga has since issued a warning to criminals that the Police will not tolerate acts of lawlessness and those engaging in violent crimes the law will catch up with them, and they will face the full wrath of the law.
He said officers remain on high alert, and are intensifying operations to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
