Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati says the significant transformation that has taken place in the Zamtel Company has enhanced its operations.
Mr Mutati observes that now Zamtel, a company which was a sleeping giant has been awakened, and now earmarked to accelerate economic growth in the country.
ZANIS reports that speaking during the launch of the Zamtel corporate strategy 2025-2029 in Lusaka, Mr Mutati explained that the Government played a pivotal role in making the company more economically viable.
He added that following the Government’s intervention in the affairs of Zamtel, the Firm has been able to upgrade 778 towers to afford quality digital technology services.
The Minister stated that Zamtel on its own has been able to undertake the restructuring of its financial base to the extent that it is now a bankable institution.
“We have awakened Zamtel which was a sleeping giant so that it can take its rightful place in the telecommunications sector, Zamtel with Government support has transformed from negative to positive equity, ” he said.
And Zamtel Chief Executive Officer, Jason Mwanza said the company has unveiled its robust corporate strategic plan for 2025-2029, detailing a visionary roadmap aimed at promoting technological innovation and national development.
Mr Mwanza mentioned that Zamtel has an ambitious target of achieving 11.1 billion Kwacha in revenue and 31 percent market share by 2029.
He noted that the comprehensive strategic plan features a significant network expansion, including the rollout of 1, 400 new sites and upgrades of existing facilities to 4G and 5G respectively.
