SMALL SCALE MINERS REACT TO ZIMIS

The Small-Scale Miners Association of Zambia has today welcomed the newly launched Zambia Integrated Mining information system (ZIMIS) by the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development.

President of the Small-Scale Miners Association of Zambia, Nyobola Cengelo says the system will help enhance efficiency, transparency and governance in Zambia’s mining sector.

Speaking in an Interview with ZANIS Mr Cengelo explained that the system will allow small-scale miners to apply for licenses physically and online, making the process faster and more transparent.

‘’It is important for small scale miners to own their data,” Mr Cengelo said.

He added that the new system will also help those in rural areas digitise and centralise all mining-related data, allowing investors, regulators, and the public to access key information in real time.

And Federation for small scale mining association of Zambia (FSSMAZ) Executive Committee Member Gertrude Phiri has congratulated the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development for the launch.

She adds that the system will help reduce bureaucratic delays, and improve revenue collection from the mining industry.

She said the system will indeed help to connect miners from different places that want to apply for licenses.
