MATAMBO ASSURES COPPERBELT RESIDENTS OF SAFE WATER

Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo has assured the people of Kalulushi, Kitwe and the surrounding areas that the water they are using is safe for drinking.

Mr Matambo said this when he visited the Nkana Water Bulangililo Treatment plant.

Mr Matambo said the water has been tested and is safe for people to use.

He disclosed that Nkana Water demonstrated in the laboratory to show that the water is safe and that no lives have been lost.

He also assured the families affected by the pollution that they will be compensated after necessary assessments have been done by the relevant stakeholders.

Mr Matambo further encouraged the contractors at the 60 Million dollars Bulangililo treatment plant to accelerate the projects so that there are no water blues by the people of Kalulushi, Kitwe and the surrounding areas.

And Water and Sanitation Development Minister, Collins Nzovu assured the public that from the raw water intake, they did a thorough purification process and the water is now safe for drinking.

Water and Sanitation Director Engineering, Derrick Ntonyo said the water PH has been chlorinated, and the PH level is normal though there are still high levels of metals such as manganese and iron in the streams and rivers.
