Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has called on the public to assume responsibility for proper waste management practices.
Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Administration, Gabriel Pollen, has emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy Lusaka. Speaking at the launch of “Clean Up, Crime Down! Peace Street” initiative, Dr Pollen said waste management is not a civic duty, but a symbol of order, responsibility, and care for one another.
Dr Pollen stated that the program aims to promote peace, sustainability and community responsibility for waste management.
“The “Clean Up, Crime Down! Peace Street” initiative is more than just a one-day event; it’s a declaration that Lusaka will not accept crime and disorder as normal, and the program encourages citizens to take ownership of their environment and promote peace, mutual respect, and cooperation,” Dr Pollen added
Meanwhile, Lusaka City Council Director of Public Health, Victor Kagoli, explained the importance of cleaning the city, emphasising the need for collective action to avoid diarrhea diseases that have become common in the city.
