Government has responded to the call for help to address human and animal conflict from the people of Shangombo District in Western Province.
This comes after several elephants were reported to have invaded some fields and destroyed crops in the process.
Shangombo District Commissioner, Mubita Siyamana availed this information to ZANIS during a courtesy visit by a team from National Parks and Wildlife in Shangombo district Yesterday.
Mr Siyamana said the purpose of the visit was to assess and understand the situation of elephants’s destruction on the ground.
He said the team will be in the district for 10 days to visit affected areas in order to push the animals away and create awareness among the community and make them understand how to adapt to the situation.
“The team will be going round to all affected areas, they will be in the district for 10 days so that they push these animals away and also sensitise the communities on animal behaviour through community engagements which will be beneficial to them when they encounter these animals in future,” Mr Siyamana said.
The District Commissioner has since called upon cooperation from the community in order for the team to effectively do the job.
