Solwezi Central Member of Parliament, Stafford Mulusa has donated 100 roofing sheets and 40 by 25 kilogram bags of mealie meal to Solwezi’s Kabwela residents whose houses were destroyed by heavy rains, last week.
ZANIS reports that the gesture comes after the area was hit by a devastating calamity that damaged houses and left over 80 families stranded.
Speaking when he toured the affected houses in the area, Mr Mulusa said the disaster needs concerted efforts from everyone, hence the donation.
Mr Mulusa who is also Government Chief whip anticipates the donation to help in mitigating the challenge of the damaged houses and cushion the pressure on affected residents.
He noted that the government through Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has come on board to help the affected families by giving them seven tents, saying the tents alone cannot be enough to cater for all their needs.
“As an Area member of Parliament, I sympathise with the affected families in this devastating situation that left houses damaged. And as their leader am donating 100 iron sheets and 25 Kg’s by 40 bags of breakfast mealie meal” Mr Mulusa said.
He encouraged the residents in the area to use strong and durable materials when building houses to avoid any future unforeseen disasters.
And Senior group leader, Rapheal Kankonde appreciated the gesture by the Area member of Parliament, saying the donation will go a long way as most of the iron sheets and foodstuff were destroyed.
