About 100 by 50 Kilogrammes bags of maize under Food Reserve Agency (FRA) worth K 33 thousand designated for Mung’omba area of Petauke District has been seized following a suspected collusion between a seller at FRA and a suspected briefcase buyer.
Disclosing the matter to ZANIS, Petauke District Commissioner Martha Mulenga said her office received a tip off from the community about an FRA buyer conniving with a suspected briefcase buyer to buy 100 bags of the commodity, contrary to government policy.
Currently, government policy on the purchase of the FRA maize stipulates that only one bag per household, per month and should not exceed the stipulated figure.
Ms Mulenga also highlighted that upon verification of the goods, the FRA buyer was found with K 35 thousand on him which was alleged to be the money from the suspected illegal transaction.
She explained that the buyer had an extra profit of K2000, since the 100 bugs were worth K33,000.
Ms Mulenga further warned FRA buyers to desist from such actions as the government would not hesitate to take action against them.
