Zambia will join 153 other countries in the 2025 Expo in Osaka Japan from the 13th of April to the 13th of October.
Minister of Commerce Trade and Industry, Chipoka Mulenga says the Expo will give Zambia an opportunity to learn and leverage innovations from other countries.
Mr Mulenga adds that the Expo will also provide an opportunity for Zambian businesses for networking, knowledge sharing, joint ventures and exposure for local product development.
Speaking during a joint press briefing in Lusaka this morning, Mr Mulenga added that the government has planned activities such as National Day to showcase the country’s national heritage and culture and a Business Forum to maximise Zambia’s participation in the Expo and increase investment opportunities from the Expo.
“The Expo 2025 Osaka presents an opportunity for Zambia to learn from and leverage innovations showcased by other countries,” he said.
He further announced that preparations for the country’s participation have reached an advanced stage with some of the exhibitions already shipped for the Zambian pavilion and has called on businesses in mining, Agriculture, Tourism and Manufacturing to apply for participation in the Expo through the Zambia Development Agency.
“I wish to urge all stakeholders, including the public and private sector to come on board and actively participate in this significant global event,” he added.
Speaking at the same briefing, Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, has expressed confidence that Zambia’s participation at the Expo will increase the tourist inflows from Japan and other parts of the world.
Mr Sikumba said his ministry will use the Expo to market Zambia’s tourism to all the participating countries and will further leverage on President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent visit to the country.
He added that the government has made strides in marketing the country to investors in the tourism industry, including the construction of Holiday Homes in the country.
The Minister has encouraged Zambian companies wishing to participate in the Expo to work with the Ministry so that they can be supported with logistics and for them to work as a team.
International Expos are held every five years and this year’s Expo is being held under the theme: Designing future society for our lives.
Zambia will focus on three sub themes which are Saving Lives, Empowering Lives and Connecting lives.
