Central Province Permanent Secretary, Milner Mwanakampwe has directed Mumbwa Town Council to quicken the consumption of the Cash for Work programme funds in order to achieve its intended purpose.
Dr Mwanakampwe says the Cash for Work programme is not only meant to change people’s lives but also improve the terrain of their various communities.
He also appealed to the local authority to identify technical people that can continue to work on infrastructure projects with minimal technical limitations.
He highlighted that through the cash for programme the district has managed to clear a 4.5-kilometer starch road in Mukanda area.
“Also, through the Cash for Work toilets are being constructed, I urge the local authority to make sure that you devise a plan to bring piped water here where a rural health Centre will be constructed through CDF,” said Mr Mwanakampwe.
He further commended the local authority for working with other departments in the implementation of many programmes.
Dr Mwanakampwe has, however, cautioned Ward Development Committees (WDCs) who use the Cash for Work beneficiaries to work in their farms to desist from doing.
He added that government will take punitive measures against those found wanting.
“Let us take responsibility for the funds that the government is releasing,” he said.
And Provincial Local Government Officer Clink Susiku has called on local authorities to work in close collaboration with the district commissioner’s office in the implementation of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF)
