A child rights activist has called on the government to impose stiffer punishment on culprits that are defiling children.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Media Network on Child Rights and Development Executive Director, Henry Kabwe, says there is a need to intensify sensitisation on health and sexuality in schools following an increase in defilement cases.
Mr Kabwe explained that the sensitisation will help children to open up when found in awkward situations.
He has further encouraged parents to take interest in the whereabouts and activities of their children as it will help in identifying suspicious activities and their safety.
And Mr Kabwe strongly advised that cases within the family should be reported to the police indicating that shielding of family culprits should not be tolerated as it will be endangering other children.
He has appealed to the government to heighten collaborations with other organisations to ensure that victims are not discriminated against and that they receive proper counseling.
