The Lusaka City Council has expressed concern over the illegal dumping of garbage by unidentified residents that has caused blockages in drainages leading to floods in the city.
Lusaka City Council Deputy Public Relations Manager, Bulumba Nyambe says the council will however, intensify measures to ensure that residents subscribe with registered waste management companies.
Speaking in a phone interview with ZANIS today, Mr Nyambe adds that the council is carrying out awareness campaigns to sensitise the communities on the dangers of dumping garbage in undesignated places.
He added that the Local Authority will also partner with law enforcement agencies to impose penalty fees which will strengthen laws and ensure that the culprits are brought to book.
He appeals to residents to take responsibility in ensuring that garbage is disposed of in appropriate place noting that the Council engaged an additional personnel in some areas to ensure they clear garbage in drainages
