61 YEAR OLD LUNDAZI SECURITY GUARD MURDERED

A 61 year old security guard, Juston Tembo, of Mphamba Compound in Lundazi was yesterday morning discovered dead and property worth over K43, 000 stolen at Lundazi’s main market.

The body of the deceased, which was found facing down with blood oozing from the mouth, was discovered around 06:00 hours by a marketeer, Ken Mwale, 32.

The murder is believed to have occurred between Monday 17:00 hours and Tuesday 06:00 hours at the market.

Eastern Province Commissioner of Police, Robertson Mweemba, has confirmed the matter to ZANIS in Lundazi.

Brief facts of the matter are that at around 06:00 hours, Ken Banda, aged 32, was going to his shop within the market when he noticed a person lying face down at a shop.

When he went closer, he noticed that the person was not breathing and reported the matter to Lundazi Police Station.

Mr Mweemba indicates that a brother in-law to the deceased, Anderson Zulu, 63, of Chifwiti Village identified the body as that of Juston Tembo.

He explained that the deceased was employed as a security guard for about 10 shops within the main market.

Mr Mweemba said the lifeless body of Mr Tembo was discovered at one of the Chinese owned shops which operates in money gaming businesses popularly known as Bonanza.

And manager of the Chinese shop, Dennis Silungwe, 40, of Chimtyulu Compound, has told the police in Lundazi that unknown people, after attacking the now deceased security guard, are suspected to have broken into the shop after damaging the locking system and stole 5 gaming machines, K7, 000 cash money, and other property all valued at K43, 700.

An iron bar was picked at the crime scene suspected to have been used in the act and three gaming machines have been recovered by the police.

No arrests have been made so far while the body of the deceased has been deposited in Lundazi District Hospital awaiting postmortem.
