A 35 year old Lab Technician of Chibolya Clinic in Luanshya District on the Copperbelt Province has stolen medical supplies worth K82, 300 from the health facility.
Nathan Kaonga, is reported to have stolen 11 packs of 100 HIV test kits, 72 packs of 25 Malaria RDTs, 4 packs of 25 TB LAM test kits, two 20-liter containers of Mini Dil and three 1-liter bottles of Mini Clean.
Sister-in-Charge at the Clinic, Elizabeth Kandolo, 53, who discovered the missing items during a routine stock check, reported the matter to Luanshya Central Police.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner, Peacewell Mweemba, has confirmed the incident which occurred between 25th February and March 6, 2025.
ZANIS reports that Mr Mweemba says the police have instituted investigations in a case of theft by servant involving Mr Kaonga, who is also a stores officer at the clinic.
He said the Police have visited the scene and confirmed the theft, but no arrests or recoveries have been made yet.
Mr Mweemba indicated that investigations have revealed that Mr Kaonga has since resigned, leaving his resignation letter under his office door.
“We are now hunting for the suspect and we urge the public to provide any information that could lead to his arrest and the recovery of the stolen medical supplies,” he stated.
