The United Party for National Development (UPND) in Solwezi District of North-western Province have backed President Hakainde Hichilema’s proposed call to have the constitution amended to allow the delimitation of constituencies and enhance the proportional mixed member representation in parliament and other non contentious issues.
District UPND Secretary, Amos Mpenge, says the committee is in full support of President Hichilema’s proposal to have the national constitution amended and has called for all well meaning Zambians to support the move.
Mr Mpenge said this in a press statement made available to ZANIS in Solwezi yesterda.
He stressed that the UPND in the district stands with President Hichilema on his understanding of the people of Zambia, who have been appealing for enhanced social economic development through delimitation of constituencies and increased proportional mixed member representation in parliament and other governance institutions.
Mr Mpenge said the President is simply responding to the needs of the people and upholding the constitutional mandate which was legitimately given to him by the Zambian people in 2021.
