A stray elephant has killed a wildlife officer in Serenje District in Central Province.

Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe says  the deceased met his fate when in company of his colleagues attempted to escort the beast back into the game management area.

Mr. Mwanakampwe says unexpectedly, the beast charged and trampled on the victim such that by the time other officers gunned it down the deceased had died on the spot.

He confirmed the incident during a media briefing and named the deceased officer as Josphat Singoyi based at Kanona Camp in Serenje.

He disclosed that another national park and wildlife has also been injured and is battling for his life in Kabwe Central Hospital.

And Mr Mwanakampwe has revealed that of late the province has been experiencing elephant attacks in some districts especially Serenje.

He has since cautioned the general public to desist from taking selfies with stray wild animals as this may endanger their lives.

Mr. Mwanakampwe has since sent a message of condolences to Singoyi’s family adding that it is sad that he died when he was carrying out his duties.
