THE National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has called on the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) to be inclusive, accountable and transparent during the forthcoming recruitment of 4200 teachers.
NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chanda stresses that there’s need for the TSC to be accountable to the various stakeholders during the recruitment exercise.
Mr Chansa said this in a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka.
Mr Chansa noted that the exercise has the potential to attract mistrust, suspicions and finger pointing among stakeholders if not handled effectively.
He stressed on the sensitivity of the matter adding that anything less than professionalism during the exercise would erode confidence in the process among stakeholders.
Mr Chansa noted that lack of inclusivity of stakeholders will make it difficult for the TSC to assure the nation of a transparent process.
He stressed the need for a process that will be devoid of corruption, nepotism, tribalism, patronage but that will be nationally oriented and give equal opportunity to every Zambia.
He further stated that government should in the near future consider doing electronic recruitment of public service workers given the global technological advancements.
Meanwhile NAQEZ has commended government’s decision not to advertise the teacher recruitment but instead use the old database.
Mr Chansa said once effectively managed, the move will not only reduce recurring costs for applicants who have been repeatedly applying but will give them more chances to be employed.
He further added that the move will also reduce the bureaucracies involved and enable the TSC to conduct the recruitment exercise in time.
Minister of Education Douglas Siakalima recently announced that government will not advertise the recruitment of the 4200 teachers for 2024 but will use the old database.
