NGABWE Town Council Environmental Planner Memory Lubemba has called on the community in the district to start practicing controlled animal grazing.

Ms Lubemba states that the goal of controlled grazing is to prevent overgrazing and soil degradation.

She notes that this will help maintain the pasture in good condition.

ZANIS reports that Ms Ngabwe was speaking when a delegation from the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment visited the district to appreciate the effects of climate change.

Ms Lubemba noted that unregulated grazing leads to habitat loss and exacerbates climate change.

“We urge residents to adopt sustainable grazing methods such as rotational grazing which involve regulating the amount of grazing time and consumption levels in a pasture to preserve our environment and habitat,” Ms Lubemba said.

Meanwhile, Ngabwe Community Resources Board Chairperson, Chonta Mulapula, has appealed to the government to enhance forest guides and safeguard against encroachment in the area.

Mr Mulapula emphasised the need for government support in protecting the forest to prevent deforestation.
