Zambezi goes Clean, Green and Healthy

Zambezi Town Council has embarked on clean-up campaign to ensure that the border Town is kept clean and hygienic consistently as possible.

Council Chairperson, George Njolomba says upholding cleanliness is cardinal to prevent the outbreak of diseases among communities and market vendors.

Mr. Njolomba says his Council stresses the need for increased cleaning activities and proper waste disposal practices, especially in and around market areas due to the nature of the activities conducted there.

The Council Chairperson says the community must ensure tidiness of their surroundings by removing overgrown trees and grass to eliminate potential breeding grounds for snakes and other pests.

He was speaking when he led a team of council workers in the “Keep Zambia Clean, Green, and Healthy” campaign, focusing on cleaning the Mishivi Market in Chingalala area.

“  We have continued engaging the community and market vendors to emphasize the importance of maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings, “ he said.

He further emphasised the importance of collaboration among the council, community members, and traders to achieve meaningful impact from the campaign.

He further called upon government departments, the business community, the general public, and all other stakeholders to join the council in observing this national commitment towards creating a healthier society.

The local authority also urged the public to avoid indiscriminate waste disposal, as it is linked to waterborne diseases such as cholera and other communicable diseases.

The clean-up exercise at the market involved collecting accumulated garbage and consolidating it in a designated area for proper disposal at the main dumping site.
