Govt. to work on roads in Muchinga

Muchinga Province Minister Henry Sikazwe says the debt restructuring agreement which was reached will bring more development in various sectors in the country.

Mr Sikazwe said a number of roads, bridges among others will soon be worked on in the province to ensure they are accessible by residents.

He was speaking last evening during a live phone-in radio programme on Radio Delight in Chinsali District.

Mr Sikazwe said Chama-Matumbo road, Isoka-Muyombe road and Chinsali-Mulilansolo road among others as some of the roads that will see a facelift.

He added that government will also ensure that mobile communication networks will be connected in all areas to enable people effectively communicate.

“I want to tell people of Muchinga Province that by the end of next year, residents will see the results of the debt restructuring as it will improve the economic status of the country,” he said.

And commenting on the Muchinga Investment Forum and Exposition which was supposed to be held last year in October, Mr Sikazwe said preparations are still underway saying so far a number of both local and foreign investments have shown interest in investing in the province.

“We have to bear in mind that this Expo should be a success before, during and after for the development of the province,” he said.

He said once measures are put in place the provincial administration will announce the date for the Provincial Expo.

And Mr Sikazwe said all is set for the KK day celebration to be held at Lubwa Mission in Chinsali District on Sunday, April 28, 2024 to mark 100 years of the birth of late First Republican President Dr Kenneth Kaunda.

He said 100 years of Dr Kaunda means a lot to the Zambian citizens adding that the celebration will be graced by President Hakainde Hichilema.

The Provincial Minister added that while in Chinsali President Hichilema will also visit Shambalakale, which was Dr. Kaunda’s retirement residence.

“This year’s celebration will be unique as it will be held at Lubwa Mission which has a rich history of Dr Kenneth Kaunda who was born and worked in Lubwa as a teacher,” he said.

Meanwhile, some residents who called-in during the radio programme, raised concern over the state of roads in the province and in Chinsali District in particular.

One of the residents, Collins Mulenga said there is need to work on various roads in the district and the province at large adding that the Nambuluma- Chinsali boma road is in a deplorable state.

Mr Mulenga said Chinsali District being a provincial capital should have better roads like any other towns in the country.

And another caller, James Mukupa said government has implemented massive development since 2021 despite the many challenges faced by the people in the province.

Mr Mukupa cited the free education, increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and Social Cash Transfer among other programmes that have improved the lives of people.

President Hakainde Hichilema is on Sunday, April 28, expected in Muchinga Province for a two-days working visit.
