The Civil Service Commission has today awarded Mephrine Moonga, a medical school graduate who performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on renowned footballer, Rainford Kalaba with employment in the civil service.

Ms Moonga, 25, a Bachelor of Science Graduate from Eden University, has with immediate effect been employed as a registered nurse under the Livingstone District Health office in Southern Province.

Commission Chairperson, Choolwe Beyani said the gesture has been extended under the Presidential Initiative for Cholera Volunteers, under which Volunteers in the health sector have been awarded employment.

Dr Beyani narrated the incident that moved the Commission and explained that the gesture has not been extended to Ms Moonga because of the social standing of the victim, but because of her display of selflessness and commitment to serve a life.

He mentioned that the commission reached out to Ms Moonga and offered her employment under the Presidential Initiative on Cholera volunteers and described her gesture as that of a volunteer extraordinaire.

And Commissioner, Wendy Mulenga has commended Ms Moonga for her gesture, which she described as an act of love and has encouraged her to continue serving others even in her role while Commissioner, Gladys Tavaris has applauded her for the quick response she exhibited towards the accident victim.

Meanwhile, Ms Moonga, has expressed gratitude to the Government for the gesture and has encouraged the public to show love and always extend a helping hand when needed.

Ms Moonga explained that she was moved by the sight of helpless victims and disembarked from the bus she was on to offer help without knowing the identities of the victims.

On April 15, 2024, the 2012 AFCON winning midfielder, Rainford Kalaba was involved in a fatal road traffic accident that claimed one life from the vehicle he was travelling in.
