Residents in Kaputa appeal to Govt for water

Residents of Mwenda Nansapato Village in Miyonga Ward of Kaputa District have appealed to the Government to provide clean water to the area to avoid an outbreak of diseases.

Josephine Katai, a resident, said the water situation in the area has become worse and that people are forced to get water from shallow wells and Lake Mweru Wantipa.

Ms Katai said the population of Mwenda Nansapato which is on the shore of the lake has grown but people still do not have access to clean water.

She fears that an outbreak of cholera will be very hard to contain if the situation is left as it is.

She also called on the Government to construct a school for children in the area to access education.

She complained that children in the area are forced to go to Chichenchelebwe Primary School which is too far for them.

Meanwhile, Miyonga Ward Councillor, James Kalwa has assured residents that the local authority has plans to provide water to the area.

Mr Kalwa said the area is a priority adding that he is just waiting for the training of the Ward Development Committee (WDCs) for the works to begin.

He emphasized the importance of WDCs in the delivery of development in many areas.

The civic leader further revealed that the road leading to Mwenda Nansapato will also be worked on using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF)

He added that a school will soon be built outside the Constituency Development Fund.
