Senior Chief Nsokolo of the Mambwe people in Senga Hill District of Northern Province is optimistic that his chiefdom will record a crop bumper harvest in the 2024 – 2025 farming season.
The Chief says he is optimistic because most of the crops, such as maize and legume fields in the area, are showing positive signs.
He has attributed the positive signs recorded so far in many crops to the early distribution of farming inputs coupled with the good climatic conditions being experienced in the area.
Speaking to ZANIS in an interview today, the traditional leader narrated that the area has good climatic conditions, which are also favourable for maize and legumes such as beans.
He also disclosed that the increase in the maize floor price from K280 in 2023 to K330 last season has encouraged many people to venture into farming this season.
“I want to attest to the fact that most of the people in my chiefdom have changed the facelifts of the houses, with others buying vehicles or motorbikes from farming, this is all because they have now taken farming seriously,” the Senior Chief noted.
Senior Chief Nsokolo disclosed that he has started working with village head persons to sensitise people in their localities to keep enough food for their homes and only sell the surplus.
