48 CDF projects commissioned in Nkeyema district

NKeyema District has so far commissioned 48 projects under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) since 2022.

The latest commissioned projects include a 1×3 classroom block at Mikube primary school and another 1×3 at Shimano secondary school.

At Mikube, a new permanent 1×3 classroom block is a significant upgrade from the old mud and pole structure which was not conducive for both teachers and learners.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at two separate sites, Western Province Minister, Kapelwa Mbagweta, who is also Nkeyema Member of Parliament, called on the people of Nkeyema to continue supporting the government for more projects.

“Continue supporting President Hakainde Hichilema, don’t listen to people who come in the night to tell you wrong things. The taxes you pay to the government are working for you through CDF,” Mr Mbangweta said.

He also took advantage of the gathering to inform the community on the need to register themselves with government officers carrying out registration for relief food so that they are not left out.

Mr Mbangweta assured the people that the government will not allow anyone under its watch to die of hunger.

The Minister further appealed to the community to plant more trees and not burn the bushes when preparing their fields so as to minimise the effects of climate change in view of the drought.

Speaking earlier, Acting Nkeyema Council Secretary, Musialela Mubita disclosed that the 1×3 classroom block at Mikube was constructed at a total cost of K594, 000 while at Shimano K694, 000 was spent on the project.

Meanwhile, Nkeyema District Administrative Officer, Kapelwa Akapelwa highlighted the importance of investing in education warning parents against infringing on children’s right to education.

“Not allowing children to come to school is a serious human rights crime, you can even be arrested. Let the children come to school, there is free education. We are committed to improving the learning environment for our children, and this new school building is a testament to that commitment,” he said.

The Parent-Teacher Associations at both Mikube primary school and Shimano secondary schools expressed gratitude for the new facilities, saying they are happy to see their children learning in a safe and conducive environment.
