Over 2000 desks repaired in Solwezi

Solwezi Trades Training Institute (SOTTI) in North Western Province says it has completed its task to repair over 2,000 desks.

This follows a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) signed with the Ministry of Education in line with the Presidential directive to ensure no child sits on the floor while learning.

(SOTTI) Principal Ethel Mbewe says her institute is  working around the clock to ensure that all broken frames from schools in the province are repaired and distributed by tomorrow’s official time.

“We have finished rehabilitating all the frames that were given to us. Over 2,600 frames are done we are just remaining with putting the tops. We are just winding up the works and by Friday this week everything will be finished,” she said.

She explained that  it is gratifying that the Ministry of Education in line with the MoU, has been collecting the desks for distribution to various schools.

Ms Mbewe said the venture has a spillover effect on the community as it is an employment opportunity for some of her graduates  to join in.

She however, said the institution has been facing the challenge of high cost of material for repairing desks as it is procured from as far as Lusaka.

The Programme was recently flagged off early this year by North Western Province Permanent Secretary Colonel Grandson Katambi (rtd).
