23 YEAR OLD KAPIRI MPOSHI MAN GETS THREE YEARS FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

Kapiri Mposhi Magistrate, Mwila Malupande, has sentenced Ignatius Mulenga aged 23 to three years in prison for drug trafficking.

Brief facts of the matter are that on 30th January, 2025, around 22:00 hours, Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) Officers received a tip-off that someone was in possession of drugs at a turn off area in Kapiri Mposhi.

ZANIS reports that the officers quickly acted on the report and went to investigate the matter.

Upon arrival at the suspect’s house, the suspect threw a black plastic bag through the window which contained a drug known as cannabis.

The officers seized the drugs and discovered there were 73 clear sachets of marijuana.

Mr Mulenga was then taken to Kapiri Mposhi Police Station where he was formally arrested and charged.

The offence is contrary to Section 15 (1) (2) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act number 35 of 2021, as read with the statutory instrument 119 of 1995 of the Laws of Zambia.

The drugs were taken to the University Teaching Hospital laboratories in Lusaka for testing and were confirmed to be marijuana weighing 1.1 kilogrammes.

Magistrate Malupande sentenced Mr Mulenga to three years imprisonment with hard labour with effect from 19th February, 2025.
