Six aspiring candidates file nominations in Sikongo

Six candidates from four political parties have successfully filed their nominations in the forth-coming Local Government by-elections in Liumena ward in Sikongo District of Western Province.

The nominations took place today, 11th June 2024, in preparation for the local government by-elections scheduled for July 12, this year.

Socialist Party (SP), United Party for National Development (UPND), Citizens First Party (CF) and Leadership Movement Party (LMP) are the political parties contesting.

The candidates in Liumena ward includes; Kababu Nyumbu of the Socialist Party, Mutondo Chabaya of the Citizens First Party, Musangu Musangu of the Leadership Movement Party and Kashinji Siyoto of the United Party for National Development.

Candidates under Mwenyi ward Masiliso Simakando of the Socialist Party and Humphrey Namangolwa of the United Party for National Development. 

Electoral Commission of Zambia Commissioner, McDonald Chipenzi has commended all political players and other electoral stakeholders involved for peacefully conducting the nomination process.

Mr Chipenzi has also urged the political parties involved to conduct their campaigns peacefully until the poll day.

He said this in Sikongo today after witnessing the nominations in both wards.

The two by-elections in Liumena and Mwenyi wards have been necessitated following the resignation of two Patriotic Front councillors in both wards after they joined the civil service.
