Tanzania humiliates Zambia in a world cup qualifier

Zambia’s dream of qualifying to the World Cup has been dashed following the one nil humiliating defeat to Tanzania in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Taifa Stars secured the win through an early goal by Waziri Shentembo, in the 5th minute at Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola .

Despite creating several chances through striker Patson Daka, the early setback proved difficult for Zambia to recover from, as they were unable to capitalize on the home ground advantage.

The loss to Tanzania marks Zambia’s third consecutive defeat in the qualifiers, following losses to Niger and Morocco.

Speaking in a post-match press conference, Zambia National team coach, Avram Grant, expressed disappointment at his side’s loss to Tanzania.

Grant, however said he has built a strong team and is confident of coming out strong and qualify the team to the Africa Cup of Nations.

ZANIS reports that the Chipolopolo now sit fourth in Group E with three points, while Tanzania has 6 points and the group leader Morocco are now on nine points after crushing Congo Brazzaville 6-0 at home at Adrar Stadium in Agadir.
