VEEP arrives back from Tajikistan

Vice-President Mutale Nalumango has described her visit to Tajikistan as successful following the many lessons learnt on how best to manage water in the country.

She says the high-level action water for sustainable development 2018 to 2028 conference she attended, tackled a number of interventions on how to harness water amid the impact of adverse effects of climate change.

Speaking on arrival at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport from Tajikistan, Ms Nalumango said the conference touched on a number of issues pertaining to water harvesting and investment among others.

She explained that the current adverse effects of climate change which has ravaged Zambia and many other countries, calls for strong collaborative efforts among various countries and stakeholders.

“Indeed, we learnt a lot as you know it is critical to learn best practices on water management from others, so this is very important for us as a country knowing the situation we are going through in terms of drought, we networked a lot,” she said.

She further explained that the fact that almost half of the Citizens in Zambia are grappling with lack of water due to the prolonged drought crisis, the conference came at the right time.

The Vice President added that the water sustainable conference brought to the fore how that country and many others have been investing in the water sector in an effort to ensure that water is made available to everyone.

She reiterated that as Zambia is devising various interventions to ensure water availability to citizens, there is a need to network with different stakeholders in order to find best solutions to the water challenge.

She also mentioned that she participated in a series of bilateral meetings with that country’s leadership in various areas of cooperation.

Ms Nalumango arrived at the KKIA at exactly 14:30 hours.
