Two men in their early twenties have been brutally murdered by a mob of motorcycle riders in Nakonde District of Muchinga Province.
Muchinga Province Commanding Officer Paul Achiume confirmed the murders to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Nakonde today and identified the victims as Alister Sichone aged 20 of Katozi Village and Julius Simbeye aged 21 of Nantimbwa village.
Mr Achiume said that on June 22nd , 2024, around 15:00 hours, police in Nakonde received a report from a member of the public about the murder of two people that occurred on the same date around 12:00 hours at Ibrahim village in Chieftainess Waitwika’s area.
“According to the report, a group of motorcycle riders believed to have come from Nakonde Central Business District (CBD) allegedly murdered the two male persons suspected to be thieves behind the cases of aggravated robberies in the district,” he said.
The Police Commissioner said that sticks, logs, and stones were believed to have been used in the killing.
Mr Achiume added that when officers rushed to the crime scene, the murdered suspects were found with burns all over their bodies and multiple head injuries.
He said that officers then picked the two dead bodies and deposited them to Nakonde district hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
“Officers rushed to the scene of the crime and found the two dead bodies at a football ground in Ibrahim village”, Mr Achiume said.
The two bodies have since been handed over to respective relatives for burial while investigations in the killing continue.
