President Hichilema attends burial for late President Geingob

President Hakainde Hichilema today joined regional and global leaders in putting to rest

Namibia’s 3rd President Hage Geingob who died on the 4th of February 2024.

A sombre mood characterised the burial procession as the Namibian Defense Forces drove in the remains of president Geingob on a gun carriage.

Namibian citizens who went to attend the burial procession waved their flags and national colours as the body passed by.

President Geingob has been buried at the country’s heroes square where several other Namibian liberation champions are buried.

As Commander-In-Chief of the Namibian Defense forces, President Geingob was accorded a 21 gun salute and a fly past as his casket was being lowered in his final resting place.

The burial was attended by the country’s first President Sam Nujoma and second Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba.

others in attendance at the burial included Germany President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, the President of Qatar, Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Princess Anne a representative of King Charles the 3rd of the United Kingdom, and a Chinese delegation that represented Chinese President Xi Jinping.

On the African Continent almost all Presidents from the Southern African Development Community SADC attended the burial.

President Hichilema while in Namibia attended both the memorial Church service which was held at the country’s independence stadium and the burial held at the country’s heroes square.

The Head of state was accompanied to Namibia by first lady Mutinta Hichilema and Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe.

The Head of state has since returned to Zambia.
