The Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE) has urged journalists to refrain from disseminating misleading information about capital markets.
LuSE Chief Executive Officer, Nicholas Kabaso says the media has a critical role in reporting accurately about the capital markets for stakeholders to make informed decisions.
Speaking during a capital markets media workshop in Chilanga, Mr Kabaso said there is need for the journalists to understand the system and inter leakages that require specialised knowledge and skills to communicate on capital markets.
He added that it is important for media practitioners to develop the necessary skills in analysing financial data and interpreting market trends.
“Accurate informative reporting on capital markets remains key for sustainable development of our capital markets and the Zambian economy”, he said.
The Chief Executive Officer also highlighted the critical role capital markets play in driving economic development by facilitating investments and fostering growth..
The training which was organised by LuSE, in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Zambia Institute of Mass Communication (ZAMCOM) took the participating media practitioners through various sessions that included Fundamental Concepts about Capital Markets, as well as Understanding the Ethical Consideration involved in Financial Journalism among other topics.
