Mambwe Town Council says a total of 4,431 desks are expected to be procured this year at a cost of over 2.3 Million Kwacha under the 2022 and 2023 allocation of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Council Public Relations Officer, Grace Lungu, says the Council had also started the distribution of desks to various schools in the district.

Ms Lungu said a total of eight schools had so far received the desks under this year’s distribution as of yesterday.

She told ZANIS in an interview that each school was allocated 30 desks.

Ms Lungu added that 1,090 desks were expected to be distributed by the end of the week.

She said the local authority was working in close collaboration with the district education board office throughout the desk distribution exercise.

Ms Lungu further noted that the council had started the distribution of desks the previous year, adding that the current desk distribution exercise is meant for the schools that had not been covered as well as those that did not receive the whole allocation as guided.

She said the desk distribution exercise is in adherence to the presidential directive to ensure schools are equipped with adequate desks to prevent pupils from sitting on the floor while attending lessons.
