The Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) has dismissed allegations purporting that the Revised Census and Population Summary Report (Vol 2) is not credible.
ZamStats Board of Directors Chairperson Oliver Chinganya, however affirmed that the recently released Revised Census and Population Summary Report (Vol 2) is credible and valid.
Mr Chinganya dismissed allegations that ZamStats excluded data from the report, describing the allegations false, unfounded and an attempt to discredit the competence and integrity of the national statistical system.
In a statement issued to ZANIS Mr Chinganya , said the agency operates independently and professionally, and adheres to international statistical standards.
This comes after allegations surfaced in the media suggesting that ZamStats was directed to exclude certain census data from the report .
Mr Chinganya also addressed discrepancies between the number of registered voters and the 2022 Census Population Count in some wards.
“These variations are statistically insignificant and can be attributed to differences in the purposes and processes of voter registration and census data collection,” he stated.
Mr Chinganya reaffirmed the public agency’s commitment to ensuring transparency and provide credible official statistics.
He further explained that the Revised Census Population Summary Report (Vol 2) was produced in accordance with the Statistics Act No. 13 of 2018 and international statistical standards.
“ZamStats looks forward to sharing the full breadth of its census findings with the public and clarifying any misconceptions,” he said
