POLICE, COUNCIL CONFISCATES ILLEGALLY PRODUCED DRINKS

Police in partnership with Kabwe Municipal Council and the District Health office yesterday confiscated drinks branded Natural juice, which were being manufactured illegally and under poor sanitary conditions at a house in Kasanda Mine Township.

Central Province Police Commissioner, Charity Munganga says the family behind the production of the drinks has no legal document permitting the production of the drinks.

ZANIS reports that Ms Munganga who was at the scene named some of the seized items as 28 cases of 5 litre containers of pineapple fruit juice, 6 cases of 5 litre containers of orange juice, 28 cases of 2.5 litres of pineapple juice and 6 cases of 5 litres of orange juice.

“We also found empty containers, lids, three packs of sweetener, four packs of citric acid, three bottles of flavour of 11 colours, a stabiliser, a 250-litre drum of already made juice, 30 litre buckets of already made juice and a heat gun that is used for packaging among others,” she said.

The Police Commissioner stated that police also found branded stickers.

Ms Munganga said that the police will work with the council and Ministry of Health to ensure that the people behind the illegal activity are made accountable by law.

“From our preliminary investigations, these people do not have any legal document authorising the production of the drink branded ‘Natural fruit juice,’ and the conditions under which they are producing, the drinks are filthy,” she said.
