Over 500 women in Kaputa District will be empowered with productivity grants under the Supporting Women’s Livelihoods (SWL) Programme through the Department of Community Development.

Kaputa District Community Development Officer, Theresa Nsakashalo says the women will be given a grant of K3,790 each to enable them engage in business and improve their livelihoods.

Ms. Nsakashalo said the money will be paid in two instalments of K1,895.

She said this during the handover of the mobile handsets, which will be used to disburse the funds.

Ms. Nsakashalo explained that government wants to see the welfare of women uplifted so that they can also support their families.

She has since urged women to invest their money in profitable businesses that will help them improve their lives.

Ms Nsakashalo urged the women to continue participating in community saving groups to save and grow their businesses.

She reminded them to use the skills they acquired during business and livelihood training.

And Elizabeth Chansa, who is Chairperson of Ebenezer Women Group, thanked government for the initiative, saying it will help them in their businesses.

Ms. Chansa said women are eager to spearhead development and will ensure they use the money for the intended purpose.

She said government should continue with such initiatives so that more women can be lifted out of poverty.
