Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Bernard Mpundu, has applauded the Bank of Zambia for promoting tourism in the country through features that will be used on the new banknotes.
Mr Mpundu observes that the inclusion of waterfalls on the new bank notes will go a long way in marketing tourism especially in the northern circuit.
“We are thrilled to see the beauty and potential of Northern Province as reflected in the new currency notes. This will contribute to the national economic and cultural landscape, and we hope it will inspire greater investment and attention to the region,” he states.
ZANIS reports that the Permanent Secretary said this when a team from the Bank of Zambia that is in province to sensitise communities on new bank notes, called on him at his office in Kasama.
Mr Mpundu has also praised the bank’s inclusion of accessibility features for visually impaired persons.
And Bank of Zambia Human Resources Manager, Mumbi Mwila, disclosed that the bank has embarked on national wide sensitisation of the new bank notes.
Ms Mwila said the campaign is part of the bank’s ongoing efforts to ensure citizens are well informed about the changes, including the enhanced security features and the need for periodic currency updates.
“One of the primary reasons for upgrading our currency is to enhance its security. The new notes come with advanced features designed to combat counterfeiting and ensure ease of authentication with the current currency having been in circulation since 2013.
