Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu has reiterated the need to clean up the Zambia Police to rid the Service of unprofessional officers who are tarnishing the image of the Police.

Mr Mwimbu says the police service is a noble profession whose integrity should be protected. 

The Minister was speaking when he officiated at the 2025 Zambia Police Open Day celebrations in Chongwe District, held under the theme “enhancing crime prevention through community participation for a secure and peaceful environment”.

He said there were still some police officers who have continued to tarnish the image of Zambia police through bad behaviour. 

“We still have bad eggs within the Police service, let’s ensure that we fish them out, I will not accept behaviours such as an officers releasing inmates due to being drunk on duty, taking turns in rape women and stealing from members of the public,” Mr Mwiimbu said. 

He further stressed the importance of community participation as key to ensuring crime prevention in the Country. 

Mr Mwimbu said that the community should work with the police to fight crime, adding that the police cannot work in isolation. 

And Lusaka province Minister Sheal Mulyata encouraged the officers that have been recognised for their noble services to continue being disciplined and committed in their duties.

“It’s because of the unity that prevails among us that’s why we are able to celebrate this day, continue working hard and being committed to saving mother Zambia”, Ms Mulyata noted. 

Chongwe District Commissioner, Evans Lupiya said Chongwe has witnessed a reduction in crime cases in the past two years and thanked the Zambia police for the good work and dedication to safeguarding people’s lives.
