Investigative wings urged to curb corruption in the construction sector

Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Permanent, Secretary Albert Malama, says the construction industry plays a vital role in the economic development of any nation despite it being prone to corruption and malpractices.

Prof Malama noted that the sector is essential for infrastructure development, job creation and overall economic growth hence the need to curb any forms of corrupt activities through equipping investigative wings on the aspects of corruption.

Speaking when he officiated at a workshop for open investigative and security organization in Lusaka , Prof Malama said the workshop will empower the participants with knowledge to detect and prevent any irregularities that may arise during the construction process.

He explained that corruption in the  industry happens in many forms from bid-rigging and contract inflation to substandard  materials, and workmanship.

He said it is imperative to equip the investigative wings and security organizations with the necessary knowledge and tools to ensure that public resources are used prudently to ensure projects are executed in a transparent and accountable manner.

Prof. Malama noted that the workshop was also aimed at making a significant step to promote transparency and efficiency in the construction industry.

He said the cooperation from the investigative wings and security organization can help combat corruption , ensure that public projects are delivered on time, within budget and with the highest quality standards.
