The Minister’s Spouses Association has donated essential items and carried out renovations at the Ndola Teaching Hospital Relatives Shelter to improve the facility’s condition.
The donated items were 20 bunker beds, 40 mattresses, a television set and a stove all amounting to K200, 000 including the renovation works.
Minister’s Spouses Association Representative, Sherly Tayali, who handed over the items to government emphasised the association’s commitment to supporting under privileged members of society.
Mrs Tayali highlighted that the association has embarked on a nationwide initiative to renovate patient relatives’ shelters to ensure that people caring for their loved ones in hospitals do not endure additional hardships.
“The shelter, constructed by the Friends of Ndola Teaching Hospital, serves as a haven for patients’ relatives. No one should experience further suffering while attending to their loved ones in the hospital,”Ms Tayali said.
And Ndola District Commissioner Joseph Phiri commended the Minister’s Spouses Association for the dedication to improving healthcare support systems.
Mr Phiri said the rehabilitation of the shelter will provide a home for the caregivers as they look after the patients.
He added that many relatives to patients travel long distances to care for their loved ones and that it is important to provide them with a comfortable place to rest.
Copperbelt Province Health Director, Charles Mwinuna, expressed appreciation for the donation, stating that contributions from various stakeholders play an important role in enhancing patient care.
“The support from our partners, such as the Minister’s Spouses Association, helps us provide holistic healthcare services,” he said
