The Zambia Meteorological Department says the western part of the country is forecast to experience heavier rains from the period 11th to 20th November 2024.

ZANIS reports that according to the weather alert and advisory issued by the department, the rainfall activities will be influenced by the Congo airflow.

“An influx of moist and unstable airflow from the northwest (Congo Air) will be influencing the weather in most parts of Zambia during the forecast Period 11th to 20th November, 2024.”

The Congo airflow is expected to induce cloudy conditions and rainfall in most parts of the country with occasional heavier falls in areas over the western part of the country.

However, isolated lighter rainfall is anticipated over the eastern parts of Eastern, Muchinga and Northern Provinces during the forecast period.

The Met department has since advised farmers to prepare fields and visit the Agricultural Extension Offices for further advice on the availability of soil moisture in their respective areas.

“Farmers are advised to prepare fields and visit Agricultural Extension Offices for further advice on the availability of soil moisture in their respective areas.”

And members of the public have been urged to ensure drainages are free from debris to avoid flooding.

“The general public is advised to ensure drainages are free from debris.”

The department has further cautioned the public to avoid standing under isolated trees during the rainfall to avoid being struck by lightning.

“Take precaution and avoid standing under isolated trees during the rainfall event to avoid being struck by lightning and always carry an umbrella to avoid being soaked.”
