KASAMA District Commissioner Annie Paul has appealed to motorists to stop using the Timothy Chinunda Road.
Mrs Paul has advised residents not to use the road saying the Mulilansolo Bridge commonly known as the Riverest Bridge where the road passes has become a death trap.
Speaking when she led a team of engineers in touring the bridge, the District Commissioner called on engineers from the council and Road Development Agency to immediately close the road and start working on the crossing point.
The District Commissioner further appealed to motorists to comply with the directive and stop using the road before lives are lost.
She said the government will mobilize resources for works to be undertaken quickly so that people can continue using the road safely.
Mrs Paul said the road is economical and convenient for the people of Kasama and there is need to work on it as soon as possible.
And Northern Province Road Development Agency Regional Manager Benny Kashimoto, revealed that the bridge is in a bad state and it can collapse at any time.
Mr Kashimoto said RDA working with the council will quickly mobilize and get on site to ensure works on the crossing point are done quickly.
The Regional Manager further appealed to residents of the location area to start using alternative roads as the Timothy Chinunda Road will be closed during construction.
Meanwhile, Buseko Ward Councilor Angel Musonda has commended the government for considering rehabilitating the bridge which he says possesses a danger to people.
He said engineers should ensure that lives of the community are protected by inspecting infrastructures in the district.
