TVTC opens skills center in Kalomo

The Technical and Vocational Teachers College (TVTC) has opened a skills training outlet in Kalomo district to enable youths in the area access skills in various trades of their preference.

TVTC head of open distance learning Mbozi Kantu disclosed to ZANIS that the institution will start with five courses next year for a period of three months.

Among the courses include, agriculture, bricklaying, food production, electrical engineering and carpentry.

Ms. Kantu urged youths to take advantage of the existence of the TEVETA accredited outlet and apply for the skills trades owing to the availability of the bursaries sponsorship opportunities that government has introduced through the constituency development fund (CDF) window.

The TVCT skills training outlet would be based at Sichimbwali area in chief Chikanta.

Meanwhile, Kalomo district United Party for National Development (UPND) youth vice chairperson Crodwell Sikaala has expressed sadness over the low uptake of youth to apply for either grants or skills training opportunities.

Mr. Sikaala has since called on youth to take up the opportunities in order to shape their future.

And Bbilili ward councilor, Titus Siamafuwa also earlier during the handover of some grants to some beneficiaries in Dundumwezi constituency of Kalomo, bemoaned lack of enthusiasm by the youth to apply for grants under the constituency development fund (CDF) adding that a lot must be done to encourage minors to take interest in this avenue.
