ZAMBIA, UK SING FIVE MoU


President Hakainde Hichilema is happy with the move by the British government to reposition itself economically and with its relationships with other countries.


President Hichilema also thanked the British government for their support towards Zambia’s efforts to achieve the debt restructuring.


The President was speaking today at State House when a British delegation led by its Minister for International Development Anneliese Dodds, paid a courtesy call on him.


He told the gathering that he had earlier discussed with the British government on matters of Climate Change and climate financing and was glad to have a delegation to actualize the discussion.


Meanwhile British Minister for International Development Anneliese Dodds, who is also Minister for Women and Equalities commended President Hichilema for his effort in progressing economic reforms in the country.


Ms Dodds noted that Zambia and the United Kingdom (UK) will continue to work together to make progress in so many areas of shared priorities.


“Reducing poverty and building economic growth including through the landmark Green Growth Compact. Promoting peaceful democratic principles and expanding quality education,” she added.


She further said the UKs ambition is to work with Zambia in promoting sustainability, resilience and renewal, as well as harnessing the power of the private sector and delivering mutual benefits for both countries.


“I take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to working with you in the spirit of true long-term reliable partnership underpinned by genuine respect,” added Ms Dodds.


ZANIS reports that the gathering saw Zambia and the British government sign five key agreements.


The agreements included: an update to the Green Growth Compact, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs on Cooperation in capacity building, UK-Zambia Poverty Pledge.


Others included an MoU on Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Renewable Energy, MoU on Access to Climate Finance which include the establishment of a Climate Financing Unit.
