MORE THAN 10 HOUSES DAMAGED BY HEAVY RAINS IN CHILANGA

More than 10 houses in Mapepe area of Chilanga Ward in Chilanga District had their roofs blown off following rainstorms caused by heavy rains accompanied by strong winds.

Chilanga Ward Area Councillor Misheck Mweemba confirmed the incident to ZANIS stating that the destruction was caused by a rainstorm that occurred on December 23, wreaking havoc on several houses in the area.

Mr. Mweemba explained that the office of the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) had been informed about the ordeal and assured that aid would be provided to the affected residents after assessing the gravity of the destruction.

“I can confirm that we received a rainstorm yesterday around 16:00 hours, which blew off the roofs of about 13 to 15 houses in the Mapepe area,” he said.

“The disaster has been reported to the DMMU office in the district and they have assured us that some iron sheets will be provided to the affected residents,” added Mr Mweemba.

Wesley Mukosha, one of the affected residents, explained that the rainstorm blew off the roof on his house and destroyed his household goods, including a television, radio, among others.

“A strong wind came and blew off the roof of the house and damaged the electricity wiring of the house,” he said.

Another affected resident, Gracias Hicambwa, lamented that the strong wind left massive destruction and damaged her household goods, including a refrigerator, beddings, and foodstuffs.
